Project Background
The Melbourne Metropolitan Rail System was replacing its Train Control Management System (TCMS) which is an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sub-system that supports the operation of the Metropolitan Train Control Centre (Metrol) by providing the following functions:

How Innova Helped
Innova engineering resources in senior engineering and project delivery roles supported the full lifecycle of TCS project which was implemented in 2009 – 2016 at an approximate value of $80M.
Due to the size and complexity of the legacy signalling network, the implementation and acceptance of the TCS by the RTO required extended cycles of in-service testing followed by defect rectification. This required close co-operation and co-ordination between delivery agency, the system supplier and the RTO to ensure that the TCS was brought into and out of operational service with minimal risk to operations and no risk to safety.
Achieved Outcomes
The application of rigorous engineering and change management processes and deep understanding of integration of new technology and systems into an existing operational environment attributed to the successful delivery of this project. Also key was ensuring that each of the disparate delivery organisations project objectives were aligned into common and measurable project outcomes through consultatitve stakeholder management and structured risk management processes.
